Farol was born from the sea and the marine power that inspires us every day.

For nearly 30 years, we have been designing and manufacturing in our workshops in La Rochelle

knives that we want above all to be ingenious and robust. Knives with souls, that of the sea, and which we make in noble materials selected with passion and demand.

The Origins of Farol

1995

The first Farol knife was born in 1995 in the middle of the Atlantic, in the Azores, Portuguese Islands extraordinarily beautiful volcanic areas.

It was the skipper from La Rochelle, Sylvain Berthommé, who, in the middle of a tour of the Atlantic with his family, shapes his dream piece by piece every evening at the vigil. A prototype knife for Marine.

Sperm whale hunting was practiced shortly before its passage. It is this impressive animal that will inspire its design with the first knife.

1996

Back in his home port of La Rochelle, the skipper from La Rochelle set up his workshop l'Encan in a former fishmonger's hut at the Port fish market. A place steeped in maritime history.

Farol knives will be manufactured in La Rochelle.

Very quickly the knives crisscrossed all the seas of the globe in ocean racing, fishing, in polar expeditions, on cruising sailboats...
