Varek Illustrations was born from the shared journey of two brothers, Côme and Roméo—artists, fishermen, and passionate admirers of the aquatic world.
Their love for the sea began on the shores of Île de Ré, where they grew up surrounded by waves, rocks, and endless inspiration.

This connection to the ocean was passed down through generations. Their parents, equally drawn to life by the water, spent their time painting and finding creativity along the coastline, shaping the brothers’ artistic path from an early age.

Today, Côme and Roméo have set themselves a unique mission: to capture and illustrate every fish and crustacean they encounter during their fishing trips and dives.
This ongoing project takes them across the globe, following the rhythm of the water in search of the world’s most remarkable marine life.

At Varek, our mission is to share the beauty and richness of aquatic life with a wide audience through thoughtfully designed, high-end creations. We believe that inspiring people through art also comes with a responsibility—one that guides every step of our production process.

We are committed to responsible manufacturing, favoring short supply chains and local craftsmanship whenever possible. Great
care is given to the choice of materials, with a strong preference for noble, durable, and environmentally respectful resources such as wood, paper, enamel, and textiles.

Most of our products are made in France, supporting local expertise and preserving traditional know-how. When local
production is not feasible, we ensure our partners are based in Europe and share our standards for quality, sustainability, and ethical practices.

Through these commitments, we aim to create objects that are not only aesthetically meaningful, but also aligned with a more conscious and responsible way of producing and consuming.

Kelp—known as varech in French—is the seaweed that grows along our coastlines and is often carried ashore by the movement of the tides. It is a quiet but constant presence in seaside landscapes, shaped by the rhythm of the ocean and the changing weather. For us, it is much more than a natural element; it is a powerful reminder of our earliest memories by the sea.
