This miniature paper theatre, or Toy Theatre, embodies a very English spirit, tracing its origins back to the eighteenth century and reaching its height during the Victorian era in London. Traditionally handcrafted from cut and folded paper, these intricate miniature theatres featured detailed characters, elaborate sets, and props, flourishing in London thanks to artists like Benjamin Pollock.

Artist Helen Bourch carries on this English tradition, bringing to life Lewis Carroll’s beloved novels, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. As the curtain rises, we are transported into Alice’s whimsical world, filled with enigmatic characters and fantastical adventures.

From the White Rabbit, always in a hurry, to the mischievous Cheshire Cat, and the Mad Hatter and March Hare, who speak in riddles, Alice encounters an array of peculiar personalities. She ventures into the Queen of Hearts’ castle, where red roses reign, while Tweedledum and Tweedledee continue their playful escapes. Each encounter deepens the dreamlike essence of this timeless tale, captivating generations of readers.
