Nuits-Saint-Georges "Les Fleurières" 2020 – Hospices de Nuits

The Domaine des Hospices de Nuits, founded in 1270, predates the famous Hospices de Beaune and is one of Burgundy’s most historic wine estates. Like its Beaune counterpart, it was established as a philanthropic institution, receiving vineyard donations from wealthy local families to ensure the survival of the hospital while supporting charitable initiatives. The Nuits-Saint-Georges "Les Fleurières" 2020 embodies this rich heritage and tradition of excellence.

Vineyards & Auction Prestige

Although smaller than the Hospices de Beaune, the Domaine spans 12.5 hectares of prime vineyards, including Nuits-Saint-Georges village, Premier Cru, and Gevrey-Chambertin sites. Each year, barrels from the estate are auctioned at the prestigious Château du Clos Vougeot on the third Sunday of March. Acquiring these wines offers both access to exceptional Burgundy and the chance to contribute to a noble philanthropic mission.

Élevage – Expert Aging to Enhance Complexity

Under the leadership of Jean-Marc Moron, trained by the renowned Roland Masse, the Domaine produces wines of exceptional quality. Auctioned barrels are very young, harvested only months before the event, and require careful aging. My father, with over 35 years of professional experience in wine maturation, supervises a meticulous 16–18 month élevage process. This ensures each wine develops fully, respecting its terroir and revealing its unique complexity, depth, and nuances.

This rich wine with aromas of black fruits will evolve into delicate smooth leather notes. The palate has a nice balance with a lot of freshness, velvety tannins and great aromatic persistence. It's a very structured wine with well integrated and powerful tannins which give a perfect balance to this wine.
