Description

About the Domaine:

The Domaine des Hospices de Nuits was founded in 1270, even before the renowned Hospices de Beaune. Like its Beaune counterpart, it is a philanthropic and charitable institution that received vineyard donations from wealthy local families, ensuring the continued survival and support of the hospital.

This estate is smaller than the Hospices de Beaune, with 12.5 hectares of vineyards, which include the renowned Nuits-Saint-Georges village, Premier Cru, and Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards. Barrels from the Domaine are sold at auction every year on the third Sunday of March at the prestigious Château du Clos Vougeot. Purchasing these barrels not only provides access to some of the finest wines in Burgundy, but it also supports a charitable cause, blending philanthropy, exceptional wines, and the art of living in a unique way.

Elevage (Aging Process):

Jean-Marc Moron, who was trained by the renowned Roland Masse, is currently at the helm of the Domaine des Hospices de Nuits. Under his leadership, the Domaine produces exceptional wines.

When barrels are sold at auction, the wines are still young, as the harvest occurs only a few months prior to the auction. After the auction, a "negotiator" is needed to properly age the wine. In our case, my father, with over 35 years of experience in the business, carefully manages the aging process. This aging typically lasts between 16 to 18 months. During this period, my family ensures the wines are expertly aged, respecting their terroirs and enhancing the nuances and complexities of these exceptional appellations.

Details

Tasting notes:This rich wine with aromas of black fruits will evolve into delicate smooth leather notes. The palate has a nice balance with a lot of freshness, velvety tannins and great aromatic persistence. It's a very structured wine with well integrated and powerful tannins which give a perfect balance to this wine.
