About the Domaine – Hospices de Beaune: A Legacy of Burgundy Excellence
The Domaine of the Hospices de Beaune is a historic emblem of Burgundy winemaking, with over five centuries of vineyard tradition. Founded in 1457, the estate began when Jean Guillotte le Verrier donated vines to the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune, establishing a long-standing custom where families and patients contributed vineyard plots as a gesture of gratitude. Today, each “Cuvée” often bears the name of the family who donated the vines, preserving centuries of heritage and storytelling in every bottle.
Vineyards & Prestige
Covering 60 hectares, the Domaine is renowned for its 1er Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, which account for 85% of the estate. These prestigious plots produce highly sought-after wines, celebrated globally and showcased annually during the famous Hospices de Beaune auction, held every third weekend of November. Collectors, connoisseurs, and enthusiasts from around the world recognize these wines for their unique expression of Burgundy terroir and craftsmanship.
Expert Élevage – Crafting Wines with Care
Since 2017, Ludivine Giveau has led the Domaine, overseeing the production of wines that are sold at the auction while still young. To unlock their full potential, the wines undergo careful aging under the guidance of experienced negotiators. In this case, my father, a professional with over 35 years of expertise, supervises a meticulous 16–18 month élevage process. This aging enhances the wines’ nuances and complexity, respecting each terroir and bringing out the distinct character of every cuvée.
